There are a number of home groups held in homes within the parish and further afield. Most are held in the evening but there are day groups catering for both older members of the congregation or younger people with caring responsibilities. 1Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. 3 With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. (Luke 1:1-4) So begins Luke’s account of the story of Jesus. The story he tells intermingles the earthly and the eternal. It tells us everything from the history of our salvation to who does the washing up! But Luke is keen to remind us that he is not merely telling tales, for our story also begins here. We too are invited to live out the story of liberty and release in our own lives. We too are Theophilus. We too are ‘Beloved of God’, for Luke’s desire is that we too should ‘know the certainty of the things we have been taught’ Join us each week this autumn term as we explore the words and works of Jesus that Luke passes on to us today. If you can read the passage beforehand you will find it helpful.
